Evelina De Lain - composer/jazz artist

Evelina De Lain. Composer, singer and pianist was born in Ukraine, to parents blessed with strong artistic talent; music teacher and film director.

She started playing piano at the tender age of 4 and demonstrated remarkable musical skill immediately. Regional and national Ukrainian music competitions followed.

Evelina established herself as sensitive and accomplished composer from a comparatively early age while studying music in her mother’s music class. From the age of 14 she was already on a payroll in her music school working with younger students. She discoverd jazz at just 7 years old and since that time it became her main passion for years to follow.

She graduated at the Dnipropetrovsk Conservatoire with honours and then received a master’s degree accreditation at the Ukrainian National Academy of Music, Kiev. Evelina’s diploma reads: classical pianist, vocalist, teacher, concert performer and accompanist.

With ability and pedigree proven, Evelina quickly developed a performing schedule for the many Kiev restaurants and clubs, playing lounge style piano and singing jazz with a backing band. She also had a chance to stretch her classical piano skills while working as an accompanist at the Opera and Ballet Theatre.

After graduating with a diploma (awarded with distinction) from The Music Academy of Kiev, Evelina began contract performing work, getting her first internataional bookings.

For a few years she travelled the world, playing and singing as entertainer on cruise liners, leaving her mark in Japan (as a lounge singer and Marilyn Monroe impersonator) before eventually moving to and settling in London – the only city in which to indefinitely pursue her dream of being a high-level professional composer-performer. The months that defined 2008-2009 found Evelina locked into creative headwind, writing and recording her now newly released debut solo album "The girl with the flaxen hair. Continued…"

In 2009 she successfully wrote, recorded and performed her first film score for a short film "Into the sunshine".

Evelina’s performing repertoire, spanning more than four hundred themes of jazz standard, classical, pop, soundtracks and Broadway, is perfectly suited and available for eminent jazz clubs, luxury dinners and exhibitions, cocktail parties and highest level gatherings. Evelina’s traditional jazz voice has fluency, unique energy and character, emotive and articulate across a very wide range of pitch, alto to high soprano and thereon. The most immaculate piano technique is assured every time, but Evelina’s truest passion and completion lies in offering the sound of her own, masterfully created music.

During her years on stage Evelina performed for a very different audiences with constant success, among her listeners were Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall, Tony Bennett, Lionel Ritchie, Average White Band, Omar Sharif and others.

Evelina De Lain attests and describes her writing style as neo-impressionism meeting jazz (incorporating touches of postmodernism, neoclassicism, intertwined with mere minimalism). Particular influences for Evelina, are very naturally, some of the greatest and most gifted composers of all... Debussy, Ravel, Ellington, Brubek, Evans, Schnittke, Shostakovich, Ryuichi Sakamoto. The name and identity, De Lain, is sure to follow...
